  • LEGO and Pixar are finally making the Luxo Jr. LEGO IDEAS set a reality
  • The 613-piece Disney Pixar Luxo Jr (21357) is available for preorder now
  • Luxo Jr. is due to release on June 1 and will come with a fun, buildable Pixar ball

The LEGO Disney Pixar Luxo Jr. (21357) model is finally coming out, after the project was introduced as a LEGO IDEAS, which led to the LEGO Group and Pixar teaming up for this one. The result is the Disney Pixar Luxo Jr, which will evoke Pixar’s iconic lamp, with its elastic nature and ability to jump from one odd place to the next.

The new posable set consists of 613 pieces that makes for an eye-catching display and will definitely make your guests ask: “Isn’t that the Pixar lamp?”

“Yes, it is, it’s mine,” proud owners would be able to say. The  Luxo Jr. is a Pixar staple after all. It was introduced in 1986 in a short Pixar film and became synonymous with the brand.

The LEGO Group and Pixar could not have left it at just that and so, they included a buildable Pixar ball, because – why not, adding a little to that nostalgia, or even appealing to newer fans who have heard of Pixar but have not seen the studio’s shows.

Luxo Jr. designer Toby had this to say in a press statement shared by The Lego Group:

“I’m a huge fan of all the Pixar films, which were a big part of my childhood, and Luxo Jr. is the mascot that perfectly sums up my love for these movies. I spent a lot of time looking at photos of Luxo Jr. to make my model as screen-accurate and recognisable as possible.”

Plus, the ball and lamp are actually going to interact in a fun way to add some playability and enhance the display value!  And again, this is not all. The Pixar ball opens up to reveal various hidden easter eggs inspired by both Disney and Pixar movies, such as Ratatouille, Monsters, Inc, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Up.

For more than 40 years now the lamp has been an unmistakable hallmark of Pixar’s work, and we are very excited about this one. Oh yeah, and there is more. The Pixar ball can actually shed one or two sides, which will create flat surface that allows you to poise the Luxo Jr. lamp right on top and create a bit of quirkier structure that is really going to pop and grab your attention.

It also reminds one of the surreal elasticity of the lamp itself, and you can almost see it coming to life in your mind. Well, enough chin-wagging, because the Pixar Luxo Jr. is coming out on June 1, 2025, and it will retail for $69.99. Well, it’s definitely a great LEGO build to consider – so go ahead, add to cart if you will because preorders are actually open today!
